Balustrades and handrails, Liverpool.
MSR fabricates balustrades and handrails in Liverpool for balconies, rooftops, staircases, atriums and walkways. We make them in mild steel or 304/316 stainless, with bar, glass, solid or perforated infill, and our own team fits them.
Balustrades are finish work: people lean on them and look at them, so the welds and the line have to be right as well as the strength. We measure on site before cutting, fabricate and finish each run in our Bootle works, and deliver it in sections ready to fix.
Our best-known example is on the Liverpool waterfront: rooftop balustrades with the Royal Liver Building behind them, alongside perforated screens and bespoke bar metalwork for venues including Eric’s and BOHO. Across the Wirral we make staircase, balcony and terrace balustrades for waterfront and residential properties. For industrial, quayside and rail sites we make access handrail built for heavy use.
What we make.
- Vertical bar, solid panel and perforated panel balustrades in mild steel or 304/316 stainless
- Glass-infill balustrades with steel or stainless posts and handrails
- Balcony, terrace and rooftop balustrades for homes, apartments and commercial buildings
- Staircase balustrades and handrails, including curved and wreathed sections
- Laser-cut and perforated decorative infill panels to an architect's pattern
- Industrial and access handrail for walkways, platforms, quaysides and plant areas
- Welded for a seamless line, or bolted where panels need to come out for maintenance
What to send us for a quote.
- The total length of each run and the number of corners and ends
- Where it's fixed (top of slab, side of slab, wall or stair) and what it's fixing into
- Inside or outside, and how close to the sea or river (this decides the stainless grade and finish)
- The infill style you want: bars, glass, solid or perforated panel
- Photos or drawings of the area

FAQ
Balustrades & Handrails: common questions.
Should I choose 304 or 316 stainless steel?
316 holds up better near the coast and the Mersey, where salt air marks lower grades, so we usually recommend it for waterfront, balcony and seafront work. 304 suits most inside and sheltered jobs. We'll advise once we know where the balustrade is going.
Do you make glass balustrades?
Yes. We fabricate the steel or stainless posts, shoes and handrails and fit glass infill panels to suit, as on the steel and glass atrium balustrades in our gallery.
What height does a balustrade need to be?
Building Regulations set minimum guarding heights depending on where it's used, for example a domestic stair or a commercial balcony, and some jobs also need a set load rating. We build to the height and loading in your architect's or engineer's design, and we can talk you through it if you don't have one yet.
Do you fit balustrades on the Wirral and outside Liverpool?
Yes. We fabricate in Bootle and fit across Liverpool, the Wirral, Southport and the wider North West, and further afield for larger jobs.
